Support For Mission-Critical Applications requires a communications infrastructure that is reliable, fast and secure.
Visionary Consumer Goods Company Creates Unified Global IT Platform
Many consumer goods companies have multi-pronged strategies in China. The population offers immense opportunity to sell goods, and the workforce offers a stable and qualified employee pool to support production of goods for domestic distribution and export. China Telecom Americas' client, one of the oldest candy brands in the United States, prepared for their expansion in China by re-tooling the entire IT strategy. A common platform was needed to support Chinese distribution and production operations and connect them with the Chicago headquarters. The IT team undertook a multi-year strategy to create a common application platform to support manufacturing, distribution, and all HR functions in the United States and in support of its 10K employees in China. This massive project left few resources to oversee the planning, deployment and management of the company's vital communications network. The company needed expert support of its communications platform.
Mid-Sized Manufacturer Saves Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars in Application Costs
With companies increasingly focused on process improvement initiatives, access to real-time performance data has become essential. China Telecom Americas' client, a mid-sized manufacturing firm headquartered in NY with production facilities in both the US and China, was challenged to improve visibility into operational performance in the most cost-effective way possible. The company had its ERP system and Financial System in China, but wanted to share the application in real time with users in the US and thus avoid the upfront and ongoing maintenance costs of replicating the applications on two continents.
Solutions to Support Mission-Critical Applications
Only the highest-performing, secure network would enable both manufacturers to support their strategies. China Telecom Americas provided that and more:
- An MPLS network that will grow as the company grows and adds services, such as voice over IP, video, etc. in support of their common application platform
- Managed services that have permitted the candy company to completely outsource the management of the network and all network assets
- A connection so fast and reliable, that the mid-sized company estimates that they have avoided spending nearly $1 million over the past five years in application costs
